Point San Luis Lighthouse Kayak or Stand Up Paddle Board Trip - Paddling trip in beautiful Avila Bay / Port San Luis. I have a video of the paddle to Lighthouse Beach.
Paddle from Olde Port Beach to the beautiful little beach at the base of the breakwater called Lighthouse Beach (also called Coastguard Beach).
After landing on Lighthouse Beach, you can take a beautiful short hike up to the lighthouse.

I started the paddle from Olde Port Beach - you can start from any of the following spots:
Avila Beach - farther paddle surf launch with a bit larger surf
Olde Port Beach - (Old Port Beach) Olde Port Beach boat ramp - some small surf - shorter paddle than Avila Beach but further paddle then the next 2 launch spots
Kayak and SUP launch beach - Even smaller surf and shorter paddle
Harbor Patrol dock by the Port San Luis Boat yard - Behind small breakwall so no surf and closest launch shortest paddle - see my caution update further down the page if you launch here.

Caution update - sometimes the wind blows very hard off shore from the canyon behind the Harbor Patrol dock by the Port San Luis Boat yard. Paddle very close to shore and go under the Harford Pier when returning to to the dock if you want to land on the dock. If the wind is blowing hard offshore from the canyon it can be difficult or impossible to paddle into the wind to land at the dock unless you are very close to shore. If you find yourself unable to paddle against the wind, paddle diagonally to the wind and land at Olde Port Beach.

Point San Luis Lighthouse is the official name of the lighthouse by Port San Luis located near Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County, California.
Sometimes it is referred to as the Port San Luis Lighthouse and at other times it is referred to as the Avila Lighthouse or Avila Bay Lighthouse or Avila Point Lighthouse.
The lighthouse is located on Point San Luis.
The paddle out to Lighthouse Beach is very beautiful!! From Lighthouse Beach it is a short but beautiful hike with spectacular views up to the lighthouse.
if you paddle out to lighthouse beach, you can walk around the lighthouse grounds and outside the lighthouse without a guide. The restrooms are usually open and you can use them. You can also swing on the cool rope swing.
I believe if the docents are at the lighthouse and giving tours, you can pay and get a tour inside the lighthouse.
